#1: Keep In Touch

As we push forward each day and fill our schedules this year, it is important we keep in touch with each other.

We have a community of artists, musicians, writers, entrepreneurs, idealists, athletes and chefs (and more) in Des Moines. If we lose touch, instead of being a community, we would simply be a bunch of people who do things.

Truly, the way we connect here is what makes Des Moines a unique place to live and work. We are quick to share ideas, networks and resources.

Why we do this? I won’t answer for everyone. For me, it’s because I care a lot about what happens in our city. Pretty simple, really. I want to succeed. I want those around me to succeed. To do that, I must support them.

This also means we must develop together. Like a relationship, we want to be there when things are great, and we need to be there when things aren’t. Through it all, we must communicate.

And we must communicate with everyone: those who show up to table at Market Day, work from Mars, sit high in the skyline, serve our food, brew our coffee, craft our beer, take the stage at the Vaudeville Mews, and on and on.

If we lose touch with each other, we lose the very thing that makes this place unique.

It will be easy to get too busy this year. But it will also be just as easy to grab a pizza together at Gusto.
